This time of year can be difficult in several ways: financial problems, reminding us of situations of grief and loss, making us feel inadequate because we can't figure out the "right" gift to offer, work stress, relationship problems, spiritual stress, not to mention the emotional problems we experience from expecting perfection from ourseves and those around us.  All of these can put us in a position to feel poorly during this time of year. 

If you find you need help through this difficult time, please get the help you need.  Sometimes help can come in the form of getting more social, doing things you enjoy, focusing more on self-care or getting professional counseling.

Today I finished reading Harold S. Kushner's book, "How Good Do We Have to Be?"  In his book he says, "Being human can never mean being perfect, but it should always mean struggling to be as good as we can and never letting our failures be a reason for giving up the struggle."

Gambling’s impact on family members of those with a gambling problem.

Do you have clients on your caseload whose main problem seems to be their relationship with a gambler?

· Learn some interventions that work to help the family member realize that he/she is contributing to the problem

· Learn some interventions for family members that help the gambler realize the seriousness of the gamblers behavior, and that decrease the likelihood of blaming behaviors.

· Learn where to refer If necessary.
