"How to Screen Clients in a Substance Abuse Program for Compulsive Gambling"

Program Content, Objectives

Program Content: Participants will learn about tools that are frequently used to screen for compulsive gambling/pathological gambling.  They will learn how to use these tools, how to score them and when referral would be necessary.  They will learn about resources in the community for low to no cost gambling evaluations and treatment.

Objectives:
1. Participants will learn about the South Oaks Gambling Screen (SOGS), the Gamblers Anonymous 20 questions and the Lie/Bet Screening.
2. Participants will learn how to score these screening tools.
3. Participants will learn what scores on these screening tools would indicate referral for further assessment.
4. Participants will learn about three low to no cost services that are offered in the Omaha community for gambling assessment and treatment.
5. As time allows participants will learn some basic information about gambling addicts and their family members to improve their ability to screen for compulsive gambling/pathological gambling.

Grief Recovery Outreach Group Starting March 16, 2010

 Outreach Program

 One of the least acknowledged and least addressed concerns in our society is    Grief   the normal and natural reaction to loss.

Whether your loss is from:
• Death of a loved one • Divorce or end of a relationship
• Loss of career • Loss of a substance/gambling dependency • Loss of trust • Loss of dreams • Loss of security • Loss of health

Grief will continue to affect our lives and the lives of those around us adversely when we are forced to accept the many Myths About Grief:
Time heals all wounds
Replace the loss
Grieve alone
Be strong for others
Bury your feelings

The Outreach program will guide those who wish to resolve their loss issues and move beyond their grief to a richer quality of life. As a result of participating in this program your life may become more enriched, more alive and more fulfilled than ever before. This 10-week program will be conducted by:

The program is affiliated with and endorsed by The Grief Recovery Institute.

This format has been developed by Russell P. Friedman, Executive Director, and John W. James, Founder of the Grief Recovery Institute, and authors of The Grief Recovery Handbook-The Action Program for
Moving Beyond Death, Divorce and Other Losses.

The 10-Week Program will begin
